Sources near the border of Rwanda and Uganda have informed AfroAmerica Network that, on January 19, 2025, a large number of Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) troops in military trucks and mixed with tank trucks carrying gas have crossed the border from Uganda to Rwanda. The troops appeared to be expected by the elite units of Rwandan Defense Forces (RDF) who were waiting them across the border and led them to unknown destinations. There are speculations regarding the operation, with the highest probability being that these UPDF troops were sent by Ugandan Military leaders, under the command of Ugandan dictator Yoweri Museveni's son General Kainerugaba Muhoozi, who currently serves as the Chief of Defence Forces of UPDF, to reinforce the Rwandan Defense Forces (RDF) in their invasion of the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) under the cover of M23 rebels.
According to the sources, the crossing was at the border settlement of Gatuna or Katuna, in northern Rwanda, close to the Kabale District of Uganda at the border with Rwanda. Although the troops were in Ugandan military trucks, they appeared to wear uniforms similar to Rwandan military uniforms.
The crossing operation happens as the invasion of DR Congo by Rwandan troops is being condemned worldwide, especially by the US government, the European Union, and other world political actors. Also, the tension between Rwandan dictator Paul Kagame and DR Congo President Félix Tshisekedi has been intensifying. At the same time, the controversial son of Yoweri Museveni, allegedly being groomed to succeed his father has been claiming that he will soon invade the countries in the Great Lakes Region, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Burundi and then form a federation that will also includes Uganda and Rwanda, to create an empire led by his ethnic group.
The crossing of UPDF troops a couple of days after the Uganda’s Parliament Defense and Internal Affairs Committee rejected the budget proposals for the Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs, requesting the presence General Kainerugaba Muhoozi. General Kainerugaba Muhoozi refused to appear and rather threatened the Parliament on social media, saying, in a post : “I WILL NEVER appear before parliamentary CLOWNS .Instead I will ARREST them all,”.

Uganda's Yoweri Museveni and Rwanda's Paul Kagame are two of the African dictators who have been holding on to power the longest. Despite their brutal and bloody rules, the two dictators have held onto power mostly through repression, kidnappings, killings, and disappearances of real or supposed political opponents, journalists, and activists. Anticipating chaos after their departure and potential dire consequences to their relatives and descendants, the top priority for the two leaders has been the preparation of their succession to the throne by their son and daughter (see here Uganda - Rwanda: Longterm Dictators, Yoweri Museveni and Paul Kagame, Take A Step in Preparing their Son and Daughter for Power Inheritance).
Hence, the two dictators have been taking additional steps, promoting their daughter and son to the top positions in the country political and military institutions. In the recent periods Yoweri Museveni's son, Kainerugaba Muhoozi and Paul Kagame's daughter Ange Kagame have been promoted and appointed to top leadership positions within the military and the government.
Meanwhile, the invasion of DR Congo has been extending but Rwandan troops have been suffering with increasing casualties. At the same time, the tensions between Rwandan dictator Paul Kagame and DR Congo President Felix Tshisekedi has reached new highs. Paul Kagame, in a recent speech claimed that Felix Tshisekedi was never elected while appearing to mock Félix Tshisekedi one of " african idiot leaders". In 2023, during elections campaigns Felix Tshisekedi directed his attacks against Rwandan dictator Paul Kagame comparing him African Hitler and promising his supporters that, if elected, he would declare war against Paul Kagame and invade Rwanda all way to Kigali to overthrow Paul Kagame's regime. ( see DR Congo - Rwanda: President Felix Tshisekedi Calls for Sanctions Against Rwandan Paul Kagame and Rejects Dialogue Against M23
Hence the highest possibility of the reinforcement of RDF troops by a large number of UPDF troops that have crossed the Katuna border from Uganda to Rwanda.
