The last week for people to vote in-person early for the Georgia Senate runoff has started. And the turnout is high. AfroAmerica Network correspondents have visited some of the voting sites in the Atlanta metro area. The voting momentum appears to be on the rise and the voters more and more engaged.
The polling stations visited by AfroAmerica Network correspondents on Monday December 28, 2020, including the largest polling sites in the Atlanta metro area are experiencing an increasing steady stream of voters closer to January 5, 2021 Election Day.
Health Safety, Advanced Technology, Security, with Highly Professional Staff
The polling workers appear very professional, well organized, and with a advanced technology that allows a quick, safe, and accurate voting. The priority is cleary put on health safety of both the workers and the voters, given the COVID-19 rising cases in the World. These health safety priorities include wearing masks, social distancing, hand sanitizers, and touchless operations with touchscreen pens. Then there is advanced technology, including touchscreen, computers, electronic cards, and more.
With these measures, the process is expedited and fast, with the vote taking around 10 minutes for filling out the required forms, checking voter identity, voting, sanitization, getting the stickers, and exiting the premises. The voting stations visited have also the police on the premises.
Based on the polls and voter sentiments, the two Democratic challengers, Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossof remain in a tight race against the two current Republican senators: Democrat Rev. Raphael Warnock against Republican Senator David Perdue and Democrat Jon Ossoff vs Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler. According to statistics, until December 28, 2020 more than 2 million people have already cast their ballots.
The runoff election in Georgia was triggered after no candidate in either of the 2 Senate races won more than 50% of the vote in the Nov. 3. 2020 general election.
