Theresa May, the UK new prime minister has appointed Boris Johnson as UK Foreign Affairs Minister. Like US presidential candidate Donald Trump, Boris Johnson was born in New York City. They have matching hairdos and are very bombastic. They also both supported the UK exit from the European Union, or Brexit. Maybe, that is why people around the world tend to compare both Donald Trump and Boris Johnson. Actually Boris Johnson himself has admitted being often mistaken for Trump, while traveling to New York:
"I am genuinely worried that he could become president. I was in New York and some photographers were trying to take a picture of me and a girl walked down the pavement towards me and she stopped and she said, 'Gee, is that Trump?'" , Boris said in one of his controversial statements in March 2016, before adding other adjectives.
But Boris Johnson and Donald J Trump are far from being alike and less of friends.
Donald Trump is a presidential candidate still running. Boris Johnson was recently a UK Prime minister candidate, who lost the bid, later won by Theresa May. Donald Trump just appointed his vice-presidential candidate, Mike Pence or running mate. Boris Johnson got himself appointed UK Foreign Affairs Minister by Theresa May.
Then, there are those infamous quotes selected from Boris Johnson' speeches and statements.
1) Boris Johnson commenting on President Obama's decision to remove Winston Churchill statue from the oval office:
"No one was sure whether the President had himself been involved in the decision. Some said it was a snub to Britain. Some said it was a symbol of the part-Kenyan President's ancestral dislike of the British empire - of which Churchill had been such a fervent defender."
2) Boris Johnson commenting on Africa, to criticize the British Queen's attention to Commonwealth and UK Prime minister's trips to Africa:
"What a relief it must be for Blair to get out of England. It is said that the Queen has come to love the Commonwealth, partly because it supplies her with regular cheering crowds of flag-waving picaninnies...
"They say he is shortly off to the Congo. No doubt the AK47s will fall silent, and the pangas will stop their hacking of human flesh, and the tribal warriors will all break out in watermelon smiles to see the big white chief touch down in his big white British taxpayer-funded bird."
If left to their own devices, the natives [Africans" would rely on nothing but the instant carbohydrate gratification of the plantain."
3) Boris Johnson on Hillary Clinton:
In a Telegraph column headlined "I Want Hillary Clinton to be President", Boris Johnson said this about Hillary Clinton: “She’s got dyed blonde hair and pouty lips, and a steely blue stare, like a sadistic nurse in a mental hospital”.
What is "picaninny"?
I tried the dictionary and the web: "a racist and derogatory caricature of dark-skinned children of African descent".
What Mike Pince has to do with it?
Mike Pince will be a contrast sitting Donald Trump and Boris Johnson: he is not from New York City, has a different hairdo, likes Obamacare, shies away from controversial and bombastic statements, has (grudgingly) approved the anti-discrimination amendment, likes TPP, he is Tea Party enthusiast, he grew up democrat, and he is deeply religious.
Good luck Mike Pince!
