On January 14, 2021 Ugandans casted their votes for their next president. The main candidates were Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, 76, the current president and Africa's third longest-serving dictator, and Ugandan prominent opposition politician and music star, Bobi Wine, 38, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi. As, predicted by AfroAmerica Network, the Ugandan dictator was declared the winner. Worldwide, it was an open secret that the votes were rigged. Bobi Wine rejected the results. Now he is fearing for his life and the lives of his followers. This week, Bobi Wine told the Western media, especially the US-based National Public Radio (NPR), that he knows he won the elections but he now lives everyday "as if it's a final day."
"Well, I live every day as it comes. I live it as if it's a final day because I am followed everywhere. And every time I show up in our community, people get harassed. And because I'm being followed and there are rampant abductions and murders, I cannot claim to feel safe," Bobi Wine told NPR's Scott Simon during an interview broadcasted on February 20, 2021 ( For more visit the US based National Public Radio (NPR), here).
Bobi Wine referred to widespread arrests and killings of opposition leaders and protesters that marred the presidential campaigns and continues, to date, with the Ugandan dictator Yoweri Museveni accusing foreign powers and homosexuals of being behind the riots and funding the opposition (see AfroAmerica Network here, Uganda: Repression and Violences Against Opposition; Ugandan Dictator Yoweri Museveni Blames Foreign Powers and Homosexuals for Sponsoring Opposition).
Bobi Wine confirmed that since the end of the elections, hundreds of people have disappeared, while others are in jail.
"For the record, we have more than 3,000 of our supporters and leaders that are in jails, known and unknown. But in particular, more than 200 are missing. They've been abducted. We don't know where they are." He said.
Bobi Wine also appealed for the intervention of World powers, especially the United States of America.
