Haitian President Jovenel Moise was assassinated on Wednesday morning, July 7, 2021, in his home in the nation's capital Port-au-Prince. According to reports, the assassins were a group of armed individuals speaking English and Spanish, in a country where the langage is Creole and French. The assassination was condemned by several governments around the World, including the United States of America, United Kingdom, France, and others. During the attack, his wife, First Lady Martine Moïse, was injured in an attack.
According the the statement from the interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph, the assassination was committed by gunmen who attacked the home at 01:00 AM local time (05:00 GMT).
The Interim PM Joseph has called for calm and promised that the police will ensure security.

Haiti: A Poor Country, Marred by Demonstrations, Protests, and Violence.
Haiti is a poor country, the poorest in the Americas, of 11 million people, with around 60% below the poverty line. Jovenel Moise Moise, 53, had been ruling Haiti since February 2017, by a decree. Legislative elections due in 2018 were delayed. There were disputes, some from the opposition, against the length of his mandate and with accusations of corruption.
The opposition in Haiti has been accusing Mr Moïse rule of being illegitimate, and pointing to the fact that the five-year term, that started when his predecessor Michel Martelly, stepped down, ended in February 2021.
In 2004, a UN peacekeeping force was sent to Haiti to help stabilise the country, but withdrew in 2017, leaving the country in widespread instability.
Since then, in the last four years, Haiti saw seven prime ministers, gang violence, and kidnappings for ransom.
These social instability and the inefficient and challenged government have fueled a political crisis.
With the assassination, it is expected that instability may worsen.
