According to AfroAmerica Network sources within the Congo Desk in Kigali, Rwanda and in the region bordering the DRC, Rwandan special forces wearing M23 uniforms have increased military operations, putting pressure on DRC troops, FARDC, and targeting civilans.   However, as the attacks and killings by M23 and FARDC military operations continue, a major surprising event has happened: the coming back of Gen Sultani Makenga, one of the leaders of Rwandan proxy Congolese rebels created in eary 2010s. The apparition of Gen Sultani Makenga,  presumed dead until recently, appears to augur new dynamics within M23 rebels.

Rwandan Defense Forces in DRC - 2012

On March 27 - 28, 2022, Rwandan Speciali Forces under the cover of M23 Congolese rebels launched major military operations in Rutshuru and Bwisha, in North-Kivu, Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). According to AfroAmerica Network sources within the Congo Desk in Kigali, Rwanda and in the Nork-Kivu region of the DRC, the attacks follow days of systematic public tortures and execution of Congolese civilians in the region by  Rwandan special forces in M23 uniforms. DRC and Rwandan leaders have been in negotiations to address the situation and theUnited Nations peacekeeping mission in DRC (MONUSCO), International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL), and Ugandan military (UDF) have also been involved in finding a solution.

After almost 3 decades of respite, apart a few here and there, waves of military coups and coup attempts have returned in Africa, again. Rwandan Defense Forces in DRC - 2012

According to AfroAmerica Network sources within the Congo Desk in Kigali, Rwanda and in the region bordering the DRC, Rwandan special forces wearing M23 uniforms have started to cross into DRC to reinforce those already there. Rwandan special forces within M23 rebel group started military operations in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in January 2022, killing FARDC soldiers and blaming Rwandan rebels of the FDLR,  RUD-Urunana, and RPR-Inkeragutabara of starting the conflict.  According to AfroAmerica Network sources with the Congo desk within the Rwandan Defense Forces, the reasons are more complex and strategic.
