The season for the 2024 US presidential elections is in decisive moments for the GOP (Republican) primary races. Donald Trump has won South Carolina's Republican primary on Saturday February 24, 2024, defeating Nikki Haley, based on the latest projections.
This is the fourth consecutive win for former US President Donald J. Trump.The funny and more question still remain: If he wins the 2024 elections, will former President Donald Trump appoint his African-American friends, especially the Black rappers who supported him during the 2020 elections to the cabinet and will Tim Scott be the running mate?
The former president Donald J. Trump continues his march towards the party's nomination with a resounding win in Nikki Haley's home state. It is the fourth consecutive win for Donald J. Trump, including Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada.
In fact, by winning South Carolina GOP primary, the odds of a nationwide win of GOP Primary elections are close to certainty based on the history. Most of the Republicans who have won the GOP Primary in South Carolina, known as the Palmetto State, have ended up winning the party's nomination. These include Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, and Donal J. Trump in his first term.
A total of 50 delegates were in contest in South Carolina. The delegates are split between the statewide winner and the winner of each congressional district. With the win Donald Trump is leading with 107 delegates.
- Donald Trump: 107 delegates;
- Nikki Haley: 17 delegates;
- Ron DeSantis: 9 delegates, but dropped out on Jan 21, 2024;
- Vivek Ramaswamy: 3 delegates but dropped out on Jan 15, 2024;
1,215 delegates are needed to win the GOP nomination.
By losing her home state of South Carolina, where she is a former Governor, Nikki Haley has suffered a blow.

However, Nikki Haley has vowed to stay in the race and is heading to Michigan where the GOP Primary elections will be held on Tuesday Feb 27, 2024.
"I’ve always seen our state as a family. Families are honest with each others .. They say the hard truths. ... We're headed to Michigan tomorrow," Nikki Haley told supporters during a speech after the results, adding that she's "a woman of my word" and will not give up.
On his side, Donald Trump appeared to already aiming the general elections of November 5, 2024 against President Joe Biden. During the victory party, former president Donald J Trump told his supporters that it was a "fantastic evening ... It's an early evening. An even bigger win than we anticipated... I have never seen the Republican Party so unified."" - and he was ready to "look Joe Biden right in the eye and say, 'Joe, you're fired'"."
He invited some of his politician backers to speak on stage, including a former competitor Tim Scott, now a rumoured running mate, after withdrawing from the GOP primary race.
Tim Scott was met with loud cheers when he quickly asked the audience: "Is South Carolina Trump country?"
The following speaker, Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina senator, was met by boos for his perceived lukewarm support for Donald J Trump. Ignoring the boos, Lindsey Graham said: "America, the nightmare you're facing is just about over. This is the most qualified man to be president of the United States".
Donald Trump's Controversial Comments About Blacks Drew Criticisms from NAACP and Black Leaders.
On Friday, just before the elections, Donald Trump spoke at the Black Conservative Federation (BCF) annual gala in South Carolina. In his speech he referred to his on-going legal woes and said that these woes have earned him the support of Black voters around the country.
He said: “I got indicted for nothing, for something that is nothing ... and a lot of people said that’s why the Black people like me, because they have been hurt so badly and discriminated against, and they actually viewed me as I’m being discriminated against. It’s been pretty amazing but possibly, maybe, there’s something there.”
Black leaders immediately condemned Donald Trump's comments about Black voters as “racist.”
