African Dictators, Sons, and Daughters: Chad Dictator Idriss Deby Killed and Replaced by His son

Chad’s long time ruling dictator Idriss Déby, addressed as Marshal Idriss Déby Itno, has died from combat wounds, following intense fighting against rebels on Sunday and Monday. He was replaced by his 37-year-old son, General Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno.

The U.S. State Department offered condolences to the people of Chad and said the U.S. supports a “peaceful transition of power in accordance with the Chadian constitution.”

Late Rwandan President General Juvénal Habyarimana and Burundian President Cyprien Ntaryamira were assassinated on the evening of 6 April 1994. Their assassination was the catalyst for unprecedented ethnically based massacres. At the end of the massacres, millions of Rwandans, from Hutu, Tutsi and Twa ethnic groups were massacred. The assassination of the presidents and the massacres that followed set off a regional humanitarian catastrophe whose consequences are felt even today, 27 years later. Based on estimates from the NGOs, experts, and, most importantly, the United Nations, the assassination of Juvenal Habyarimana and Cyprien Ntaryamira has led to more than 7 million deaths, so far.

The question however is not about the numbers. The major question is why no one, so far, has been held criminally and civilly accountable, except unassuming scapegoats to accomodate collective political correctness of the international community.

This year, the IX Francophonie Games were planned in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), between August 19-28, 2022. However, sources within the Francophonie have informed AfroAmerica Network that the games may not happen in Kinshasa in August 2022 and may rather be moved to Kigali, Rwanda. The sources cite widespread corruption within the leadership appointed by DRC President Felix Tshisekedi to prepare the games. They point to a close adviser to Felix Tshisekedi and an agent of the Rwandan Government as being behind the chaos.

On Friday, March 19, 2021, Samia Suluhu Hassan, addressed to as Mama Samia, was sworn in as President of the United Republic of Tanzania. The swearing-in ceremony was held in Dar-es-Salaam. She replaced the late President John Magufuli, who died early this week (see here:Tanzania: President John Pompe Magufuli Dies at 61). She becomes the first woman to lead Tanzania and Africa's only current female country leader. Samia Suluhu was the Vice-President of Tanzania, a function she exercised since 2015 as a running mate of the late Dr John Magufuli and continued in 2020 reelection.
