The longest running war in the Americas was supposed to end last week. Unfortunately, Colombians narrowly rejected the deal in a vote  on Oct 2, 2016, resetting the clock for further negotiations. Despite the setback, today on Oct 7, 2016, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end the 52-year conflict.

On Friday, February 12, 2021, US senators recognized Police Officer Eugene Goodman's courage, gave him a standing ovation for risking his own life to save theirs on January 6, and unanimously voted to award him a Congressional Gold Medal, the institution's highest civilian honor.

US President-Elect Joe Biden has appointed Dr  Susan Rice to lead the White House Domestic Policy Council. The surprising appoitment elevates the position to cabinet level. Dr. Susan Rice, AfroAmerica Network Black Woman of Year 2011,  was long considered a contender for the Secretary of State position, until the position was given to Anthony Blinken.
