MacOS Sequoia: Desktop Widgets, Video Features, Game Mode, and Enhanced Apps.

A new Mac operating system was introduced. Normally the macOS 18 version, it will be called macOS Sequoia. macOS Sequoia will come with many new features to improve the capabilities of Macs and MacBooks.

The new features brought macOS Sequoia are found in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, including Math Notes for the Calculator app and more expressive texts in Messages. Also, a new iPhone Mirroring function will allow users to wirelessly access and control their iPhones from the Mac.

macOS Sequoia will also allow the users to better manage the apps on their Macs and MacBooks, enhance the apps including Mail, Safari, Messages, and desktop widgets, with new features such as Game mode, video conferencing features Presenter Overlay, and Apple TV-like aerial screensavers and reinforcement of privacy and security.

The new version of Safari will have the capability to summarize articles and focus on selected areas of the web pages and continue to leverage the advancements in typography and security .

Apple Intelligence, Notes, Calendar and Calculator

Apple Intelligence will help leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities across macOS Sequoia and Apple's other platforms, especially iOS. With Apple Intelligence, users will be able to use Writing tools to write, summarize, and proofread text. They will also be able to use Image Playground to generate animations, sketches, illustrations across apps including Messages.

Apple Intelligence could also be used in Notes app to assist in transcription, record audio, and summarize. With Apple Intelligence, Notes will include calculation capabilities and solving and saving equations and the history of calculations.

Siri is expected to significantly improve because of AI. Apple Intelligence will be used to make Siri more natural and conversational and to be integrated with ChatGPT. Hence, Siri would align with ChatGPT and provide a better answer to a query, by asking the user's permission to pass on requests to ChatGPT and, if the user authorizes, would get the ChatGPT response back to the user through Siri.

Apple Cross-Operating Systems Gaming Toolkit

A new Apple version of the gaming toolkit will integrate Windows-based games to Macs, MacBooks and iPhones. Meanwhile, developers and companies have been working with Apple to bring Windows-based games to its systems. Hence, Ubisoft has announced that before the end of 2024, "Assassin's Creed" will be available on Macs, MacBooks and iPhones.

What to expect next on macOS Sequoia

The developer beta of macOS Sequoia is available immediately and public beta testers in July 2024, with the shipping version to be released in the Fall, most likely in October 2024. macOS Sequoia will be restricted to a few Mac models, similar to the ones on which macOS Sonoma runs. Lock An App: requires users to use Face ID to unlock and access certain apps.

Mail App: a new improved look with on-device categorizations having the capabilities to drop your messages into different sections like primary emails, updates from other notes, or promotions.
Health App: with private data sync, more data, and interactive charts. Medical ID has been redesigned to make it easier for first responders to quickly find the most important information during an emergency.
Stage Manager .with Flexible Layouts and new abilities allowing connection to an external display.
Home app helps in better managing guest access, including granting guests the control of select smart home accessories, set access schedules, and more.
Accessibility updates with Eye Tracking, a built-in option for navigating iPhone with just eyes; Music Haptics, a new capability allowing users who are deaf or hard of hearing to experience music using the Taptic Engine in iPhone; and Vocal Shortcuts that enable users to perform tasks by making a custom sound.

The first beta versions of ‌iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 are immediately available to developers. iPadOS 18 and iOS 18 will be available to the public in the fall.
