In 2022, like in 2020, Georgia was expected to play a major role in US politics. The focus was on the runoff election for the US Senate, between Rev. Raphael Warnock, a democrat and Hershel Walker, a republican. Rev. Raphael Warnock won, scoring 51.4%, with 99% reporting. The Democrats will havel 51 seats against 49 for the Republicans, hence controlling the US Senate.
Since the end of the general election, Democrats were guaranteed to control the US Senate, but with the help of the Vice-President. Now that Georgia has elected Rev. Raphael Warnock, the Democrats, with 51 seats against 49 for the Republicans, will controlling the US Senate, without the need for the Vice-President Kamala Harris' intervention to break the tie.
The runoff election was scheduled for December 6, 2022, with the early voting starting on November 26, 2022. The runoff elections were mostly fueled by the dynamics in urban and suburban areas, especially in the counties in and around Atlanta, where the voters are more diverse.
In fact, Rev. Raphael Warnock managed to dominate Fulton County, that includes most of Atlanta, Cobb County that encompasses many cities in the Atlanta metro, and in Richmond County, in which another main city, Augusta, is located.
Herchel Walker socred high in most rural areas, known to be mostly leaning Republicans.

What is Next: is Georgia still on the path to turning Blue? What are the Trends for 2024?
The 2022 midterms are now over. Rev. Raphael Warnock has been able to successuly defend his seat in a race that has been very tight during the entire campaign. Hershel Walker, a former NFL player, leveraged the support of ex-President Donald Trump and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and hence held the advantage in the Republican base, especially in rural areas.
Now the eyes turn to the future, especially the upcoming 2024 elections. With both Sen. Jon Ossof and Sen. Raphael Warnock, Georgia has managed to remain blue in the US Senate. But the question on the political dynamis in Georgia remain (see US 2022 Election: Focus on Georgia and Rev. Raphael Warnock, Again).
In January 2023, the new Congress will take power. Their focus will be to tackle many issues on the agendas of President Joe Biden, the US House of Reprersentatives and the US Senate, but also to plan for the following elections.
Democrats are facing new challenges in 2023, in three gubernatorial races, as two states, Kentucky and Louisiana have Democrats while one, in Mississippi has a Republican governor. In 2023, the next presidential elections will also start to shape up.
For the 2024 GOP presidential primary, former US President Donald Trump has already declared his candidacy.
Other Republican candidates are expected to challenge Donald Trrump, including former Vice-President Mike Pence, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, the rapper Kanye West, known as Ye, former national security advisor John Bolton, former Rep. Liz Cheney (Wyo.), Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, and more.
On the Democrats' side, the field remain complex, as the 2024 presidential elections dynamics will depend on whether President Joe Biden will run again or not. If he does not run, several names have been rumored to compete, including: Vice-President Kamala Harris, transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg, Colorado governor Jared Polis, Sen. Bernie Sanders (VT), California governor Gavin Newsom, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.), media star Oprah Winfrey, and more.
