“I can confirm that three people, all Rwandan, have been arrested and detained in our police stations. We are expecting the South African authorities to come soon to finalize the process of extradition,” Joao Machava, the spokesperson of the Maputo province police, in Mozambique told the media on Tuesday January 14, 2014. 

According to the police, among the detained is Colonel Francis Gakwere, a high ranking intelligence operative of the Rwandan Department of Military Intelligence. He is responsible for political assassinations, especially of political opponents outside Rwanda. In the past, Colonel Gakwerere was cited in several murders of political opponents (see AfroAmerica Network profile of Francis Gakwerere:  Resume of A Professional Assassin, of August 5, 2010 and Rwanda confirms being targeted by South African Investigation, of  July  6, 2010) The three alleged assassins are expected to be extradited to South Africa. 

Meanwhile, Rwandan government has accused several African  governments and  France, to try to use the assassination to push for the invasion of Rwanda by armed opposition. Among the African governments singled out by Rwanda are: Tanzania and Mozambique, that Rwandan leaders contacted by AfroAmerica Network accuse of funding military training to the armed opposition, with the intention of overthrowing the government of General Paul Kagame.

According to the AfroAmerica Network sources within the Rwandan Government, France, an eternal enemy of the Rwandan dictator General Paul Kagame, is accused of funding the collaboration between the Hutu armed opposition and the mainly Tutsi Rwandan National Congress (RNC), the party to which Colonel Patrick Karegeya belonged and was a founding member.

The sources told AfroAmerica that Rwandan government will soon show proofs linking  the French government to such initiatives.
